Director of Commercial Growth and Strategy
Reports to: Managing Director
Direct Reports: 9 Managers
Location: Inverness (with travel as required)
Hours: Full-time
Job Purpose
Our client, undergoing a cultural change, seeks a commercial leader to oversee sales, purchasing, category management, and retail operations. The role involves shaping and executing a commercial strategy, developing teams, and driving growth across product categories and customer segments.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial Strategy & Business Growth: Develop and implement a commercial strategy aligned with the company's long-term plan. Identify new business opportunities, lead planning cycles, and drive sales performance.
* Retail, Inventory & Category Oversight: Oversee category managers, direct retail and inventory teams, and ensure margin integrity through purchasing and pricing strategies.
* Cross-functional Alignment: Collaborate with Marketing, Operations, Finance, and HR to meet commercial objectives. Provide market insights and develop direct reports.
* Reporting & Commercial Governance: Manage sales forecasting, budgeting, and reporting. Report performance to the Managing Director and ensure strategic alignment and growth metrics are met.
Measures of Success
* Revenue growth, gross margin improvement, customer metrics, stock turn, sales attainment, supplier performance, and forecasting accuracy.
Candidate Profile
* Proven senior commercial leadership experience, preferably in distribution, trade, or B2B sectors.
* Track record of driving sales and growth, with strong influencing and communication skills.
* Understanding of regional markets, retail operations, and familiarity with CRM, ERP, and analytics tools.
