Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering an appointment to be based within the Department of Palliative Medicine at Southampton General Hospital. The post is designed to provide a period of protected time for a Clinical Research Fellow to obtain experience in clinical Palliative Medicine research.

The post is designed for out-of-programme experience for an individual who does not yet have a national training number and wishes to pursue a career in Palliative Medicine.

The post is only open to applicants with a medical qualification.

The portfolio of research in Palliative Medicine is currently still small and so the post holder will be required to maintain and run currently open trials whilst also always searching for and expressing interest in opening others. You will largely be working independently with oversight from Dr Mark Banting. A further role will be to assist in the development of the service and the potential expansion to being a research hosting site.

The post will specifically help to maximise recruitment to our growing Palliative Medicine portfolio and will provide valuable training in research governance and regulation for future Palliative Medicine clinicians.

You will provide day to day medical support for patients enrolled into Palliative Medicine trials. Under supervision from the relevant Principal Investigators, you will have responsibility for patient eligibility, screening, recruitment, analysis of clinical investigations and follow up of patients. In addition, you will be involved in study protocol development and implementation including ethics committee documentation and R&D submissions where and when applicable.

You will work under overall clinical supervision from Dr Mark Banting. Training in clinical trials methodology including Good Clinical Practice will be provided according to the needs of the post holder.

No on call commitment is included within this post.
