AECOM is actively seeking a Graduate Aviation Engineer to support a wide range of aviation‑related pavement and civil infrastructure projects for airport clients. In this role, you will assist with the design, planning, and construction support of airport engineering projects, including runways, taxiways, aprons, aircraft stands, boarding bridges, vehicle service roads, airfield lighting and signage, navigational aids, surface water drainage systems, utilities, and airfield asset inspection and rehabilitation. You will work on projects of varying scale and complexity, gaining valuable hands‑on experience across all stages of project delivery. We are open to locations across the UK, offering a flexible hybrid working model to support work‑life balance. Selected candidates will be enrolled in our Graduate Development Programme and develop their skills in a supportive environment that encourages challenges and collaboration.
Responsibilities
* Aviation Masterplanning
* Feasibility and Assessment studies
* Concept and detailed design development
* Construction support
* Airport asset inspections
* Airport pavement design
* Airport civil infrastructure design (utilities, surface water, etc.)
* Geometrical airport planning
* Apron stand / air bridge planning
* Aeronautical ground lighting and signage design
* Aircraft stand modelling and tracking
* Modelling of the airport environment in 3D
Early work will typically involve assisting in developing projects through the stages from initial feasibility to detailed design, attending meetings and workshops with other design professionals. As you develop, you will be given the opportunity to take on greater responsibility in supporting the management and delivery of projects from inception through to completion.
Qualifications
* BEng in Civil Engineering or Engineering Science 2:1 (or equivalent); MEng in Civil Engineering or Engineering Science 2:1 (or equivalent) would be an advantage
* MSc in Aviation Planning
* Enthusiastic, hard‑working, with ambition and drive
* Good report‑writing skills beneficial
* Strong IT skills, experience with AutoCAD beneficial
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team
* Ability to work in a team and independently without losing initiative and focus
