About the role
We are seeking a reliable, proactive and committed Premises Officer (Level 1) to join our team following the promotion of our current postholder. This is an important role in ensuring our school site is safe, clean, secure and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors. You will work as part of the premises team to support the day-to-day operation of the school environment.
You will have responsibility for maintaining the security, safety, condition and cleanliness of the school, including carrying out routine day-to-day cleaning duties as required. You will work 37 hours per week, 52 weeks a year, which will be worked on a shift basis during term time. The shift patterns are: 6:00am -2:00 pm and 10:00am –6:00pm, this includes a 30-minute lunch break Monday to Thursday. Friday is 06:00-1:30 or 10:30-6:00pm with half an hour lunch break. Hours during school holidays to be agreed.
Key responsibilities
You will:
1. Carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs to the school buildings and equipment
2. Support the security of the site, including opening and closing buildings
3. Ensure the school premises are clean, tidy and safe at all times
4. Assist with porterage duties, room setups and moving equipment
5. Use tools and cleaning equipment to maintain indoor and outdoor spaces
6. Respond to day-to-day issues and site requests promptly
7. Support caretaking tasks such as grounds upkeep and waste management
8. Assist with health & safety practices, reporting hazards or issues
9. Work cooperatively with staff, pupils and contractors
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who:
10. Has basic DIY and maintenance skills
11. Is practical, hands-on and able to work using their own initiative
12. Can prioritise tasks and respond to multiple daily requests
13. Is approachable, polite and able to deal with staff and students courteously
14. Is willing to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
15. Can undertake physical tasks (e.g. lifting, moving equipment, cleaning)
16. Is flexible and willing to work occasional out-of-hours or emergency call-outs
Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
