Aramark Government Services is looking for an experienced and motivated Unit Manager to lead the delivery of Catering, Cleaning, Mess, and FM services across the Edinburgh Garrison at Redford Barracks. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile defence environment supporting the daily living and operational readiness of military personnel.
About the Site
Aramark provides Catering, Cleaning, and Enabling Services across Redford Barracks, including the Officers’ Mess, Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess, and the Junior Ranks’ Mess. We also manage cleaning and domestic services across office spaces and military accommodation, supporting approximately 250 service personnel daily and can increase up to 500 at peak.
The site is home to several lodger units, including the 51st Brigade and Headquarters Scotland, and our team plays an important part each year in supporting the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Success in this role requires strong, collaborative relationships with the client, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), and the Military Stakeholders, supported by open communication and active engagement.

About the Role
As Unit Manager, you will oversee all day-to-day service delivery across Catering, Cleaning, Mess Management, and FM support services. You will lead and develop the on-site management team, ensure compliance and service excellence, and maintain strong relationships with the client, DIO, and military stakeholders.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a confident operator who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-service environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Leading operations across all service lines including Messes, Cleaning, and Catering
* Ensuring high standards of food quality, service delivery, and site cleanliness
* Driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency
* Leading and developing the Catering Manager, Hotel Services Manager, and Cleaning Supervisor
* Managing budgets, forecasting, and overall financial performance
* Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, environmental and contractual standards
* Building strong relationships with military stakeholders and responding effectively to customer feedback
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Minimum 3 years’ management experience in hospitality, FM, defence, or a similar environment
* Strong leadership skills with proven experience developing teams
* Solid fiscal management, including P&L and budgeting
* Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders
* High energy, resilience, and commitment to delivering service excellence
* Strong IT skills (Excel, Word, and operational systems)
* Full UK driving licence
* The role requires full security clearance which also requires a minimum 5-year UK residence and work history
Desirable:
* Experience within a defence or military environment
* Living within a reasonable commute of Redford Barracks
