Due to our continued growth, we are recruiting for a Lead Engineer - Exterior Trims based at our customer's office in Crewe, UK.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a rapidly expanding division within Tata Technologies Limited, working on exciting global projects for multiple clients. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace, and Industrial Heavy Machinery sectors.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Lead Engineer will support the PL/PE/DE teams to ensure the delivery of Exterior Trims services with the right quality to meet customer expectations.
This demanding role requires managing technical delivery and resolving design issues. The Lead Engineer will work closely with ML/LE/DE teams and customers to ensure service delivery.
Responsibilities include technical delivery, input/validation of DFMEA/DVP, ensuring delivery quality, a 'Right First-time' approach, reporting design issues, and supporting governance of all client engagements.
All technical delivery processes must be robustly integrated into project plans, including design issue tracking/resolution, resource efficiency, task forecasting, and skill development.
AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
* Overseeing development and delivery of components such as Front Bumper fascia, FEM system, Radiator Grille, Rear Bumper fascia, Side sill claddings, Brightware badges, Glazing, ViSi BOMs, including engineering sign-off and K-release.
* Ensuring components comply with relevant legislation.
* Collaborating with System Technical Leads (SYTL) and validation engineers.
* Conducting root cause analysis (8D format).
* Managing KPM activities.
* Participating in relevant customer meetings.
* Leading design reviews with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
* Providing status updates in forums as required.
* Managing open issues lists.
* Supporting customer prototype procurement with technical documentation.
* Managing data to ensure design context and compliance.
* Loading 3D data into LCA/Siemens Team Centre for data synchronization.
* Preparing data for sign-off prior to B-releases.
* Ensuring CAD data from Tier 1 suppliers meet VW and Bentley standards.
* Uploading latest 3D data regularly for review.
* Creating draft PDMs per Bentley standards and coordinating with manufacturing.
* Identifying packaging concerns and communicating within the department.
* Ensuring system requirements meet legislative and VW group standards.
* Serving as the go-to technical contact for PE/DE issues.
* Acting as the technical link between the customer and project team to ensure first-time right delivery.
* Monitoring project plans and supporting design discussions on DFM/DFA/DFS.
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE
* Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple projects and guiding teams.
* Knowledge of change control, product definition, and change management processes.
* Ability to resolve business, technical, and process issues.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications.
* Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience.
