Position Overview
Senior Assistant Practitioner (SAP) – Neuro‑Oncology Research Team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
Supports registered nurses in the delivery of care to patients participating in Neuro‑oncology clinical trials. The post holder will primarily work under the supervision of the Senior/Lead Research Nurse.
Candidate Profile
Ideally holds previous clinical research experience in the field of cancer. Minimum qualifications: degree level education. Expected to work within the guidelines and policies for clinical trials, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with GCP principles. Must be flexible, able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication, administrative and IT skills. Supportive and open to new initiatives are particularly valued.
Key Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day management of recorded and non‑interventional research projects, including biological sample processing.
* Recruit patients to agreed portfolio of studies through MDTs, clinic screening, and review of case notes.
* Explain study details to patients prior to obtaining informed consent and collect on‑treatment and follow‑up data.
* Design and maintain databases for local studies and complete data entry where needed.
* Liaise with external trial centres for multi‑centre studies.
* Assist with Quality‑of‑Life questionnaires (paper or electronic) and related data collection.
* Provide patient support, including referrals to appropriate units or team members as necessary.
* Work autonomously to screen patients for suitability, attending MDTs or clinics and exercising judgement with trial eligibility criteria.
* Maintain study records and document information in patient notes to protect patient rights, dignity and confidentiality.
* In collaboration with the multi‑disciplinary team (medical staff, research nurses, coordinators, radiographers), carry out specific interventions required for study delivery such as venepuncture, cannulation and biological specimen processing.
Requirements
* Degree level education.
* Previous clinical research experience, particularly within oncology, is advantageous.
* Knowledge of GCP and clinical trial regulations.
* Proficient in communication, administration and IT.
* Competence in venepuncture, cannulation and collection of biological samples.
* Ability to work autonomously and within a multi‑disciplinary team.
