Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher - Focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Are you a dedicated and highly motivated teacher ready to make a profound impact on the lives of pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly those on the Autism Spectrum?

We are seeking an outstanding SEN Teacher to join our committed team, responsible for the learning, achievement, and well-being of all pupils in their class, ensuring equality of opportunity for all.


Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas

* Exceptional Teaching & Learning: Deliver a personalised curriculum tailored to individual learner needs, building on prior knowledge and differentiating appropriately. Be accountable for the attainment, progress, and outcomes of all pupils.

* ASD Specialism:

o Create and maintain an autism-friendly classroom environment to maximise educational potential.

o Apply a strong knowledge of Sensory Processing Disorder and use effective strategies for sensory regulation.

o Develop and implement Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and Communication Passports.

o Plan, teach, and review pupil progress against targets outlined in their Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

* Collaboration & Partnership: Work effectively with parents/carers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and School Leaders, incorporating relevant specialist strategies into daily practice.

* Professional Development: Commit to ongoing training (e.g., TEACCH, SCERTS, Attention Autism, Sensory Integration) and apply new knowledge in the classroom.

* Safety & Welfare: Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children, acting as a positive role model and maintaining a safe, purposeful, and stimulating learning environment.


What We Are Looking For

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.

* Demonstrable experience working with pupils with SEN, specifically ASD.

* A clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs, gifted and talented, EAL, and disabilities.

* The ability to use relevant assessment data effectively to monitor progress, set challenging targets, and plan subsequent lessons.

* Excellent behaviour management skills, establishing a framework for discipline rooted in mutual respect, used consistently and fairly.

* Commitment to maintaining high standards of literacy, including the correct use of spoken English.
