Overview

Join to apply for the Medical Secretary role at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

The post holder will provide an accurate, confidential and supportive administration service for patients, clinical teams, carers and internal and external agencies (e.g. Local Authority, Third Sector, CAIS) in order to provide a safe and efficient patient pathway and information and appropriate support to families and carers. The post holder will support the delivery of a comprehensive high quality medical secretarial administrative service and coordinate administration to provide a high quality supportive secretarial service to the consultant, medical and nursing team. The role requires independent work, prioritising own workload to meet deadlines and facilitating patients along a defined pathway.


Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Medical Secretary. The post holder will provide an efficient administration service to support the Medical Secretary team within Medicine.

Essential qualifications and experience include relevant qualifications per the person specification, previous medical secretarial experience (desirable), a high level of audio typing, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and a good telephone manner. Experience of working in a busy office environment is desirable.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and busy Medical Team, working closely with Consultants and their juniors and liaising with other team members to support high quality patient care.

The post is 28 hours per week – working pattern to be agreed. You must be able to work as part of a team as well as independently, using initiative to contribute to the smooth running of this busy area. The post holder must manage workload efficiently and effectively. Candidates must maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a high standard of customer care at all times. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria

* NVQ Business Administration L3 or equivalent experience
* RSA / OCR level 2 or equivalent experience (must be proficient user of Microsoft Word)
* IT related qualification CLAIT plus /ECDL or equivalent

Desirable criteria

* AMSPAR – City & Guilds L3
* NVQ Customer Service L3


Experience

Essential criteria

* Knowledge of a range of administrative processes
* Experience of working in a busy office environment
