The Haematology Directorate at Guy’s Hospital is looking for an experienced Practice Development Nurse to lead education and training across our world-class specialist services. This is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave, offering a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior leadership role

Clinical Areas

Our expanding directorate provides cutting-edge care for patients with a wide range of malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions, including:

1. Olive & Hazel Ward (3rd Floor, Bermondsey Wing): A 26-bed inpatient unit with 9 beds across 3 bays and 17 isolation rooms, including 3 Radio-Nuclei rooms.

2. Hawthorn Ward (4th Floor, Bermondsey Wing): A 15-bed ward with 12 beds across 4 bays and 3 isolation rooms.

3. Young Adult Unit (4th Floor, Bermondsey Wing): A hybrid inpatient/outpatient service with 5 isolation rooms and 7 treatment chairs.

Our services support patients with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, haemophilia, and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). We also care for patients with solid tumour cancers receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and palliative care. Advanced treatments include biologics, Bi-specific T-Cell Engagers, and Immune Effector Cell Therapies, delivered both as part of NHS Standard of Care and through early-phase clinical trials.

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Development Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of haematology nursing.

4. Lead the design and delivery of education and training programmes to ensure staff are supported in their professional development.

5. Promote evidence-based practice, research awareness, and clinical excellence across all wards and units.

6. Provide mentorship, supervision, and support to staff and students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

7. Work closely with Sisters/Charge Nurses and the Matron to maintain high standards of care and patient experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive registered nurse with:

8. Significant post-registration experience in haematology or oncology.

9. Training in Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment (SACT) is essential.

10. A strong background in teaching, mentorship, or staff development.

11. Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

12. A commitment to innovation, quality improvement, and continuous professional growth

Education Qualifications

Essential criteria

13. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
14. Degree
15. SACT UKONS Passport
16. Specialist professional knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice to Masters level or equivalent
17. Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development

Desirable criteria

18. Postgraduate Certificate Advanced Practice (Education)

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

19. Significant post registration experience within the speciality
20. Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating training sessions / programmes
21. Experience of mentoring/ supervising/ assessing students in practice
22. Experience of managing a team or caseload
23. Experience of involvement in educational initiatives

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria

24. Knowledge of educational standards and practice.
25. Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting
26. Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience and education
27. Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods.
28. Knowledge of recruitment, selection and disciplinary procedures.
29. Able to present articulately to large groups of people
30. Evidence of excellent clinical skills
31. Excellent time management and organisational skills
32. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills
33. Understanding and knowledge of curriculum design and development.
