Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Level 3

Hours: Full-time- 39 hours per week
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer (Level 3) to join a busy operational environment. You will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of plumbing, heating, and water systems across the estate. This includes planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, and surveying tasks—often within restricted or challenging environments such as confined spaces or at height.
This role is ideal for an experienced mechanical professional who takes ownership of their work, delivers high‑quality results, and thrives in a role with real responsibility and variety.
Key Responsibilities
Take responsibility for reactive maintenance to ensure ongoing service delivery across the site.
Conduct fault finding and ensure effective rectification to maintain system reliability.Carry out planned maintenance, minor repairs, and respond to CAFM‑generated service requests.
Prioritise workload effectively, escalating issues to supervisors or managers when needed.
Supervise prisoners during work activities and training (where applicable to site type).
Provide quality control over prisoner work (where relevant).
Perform general maintenance tasks andplete surveys, recording work in registers and logs.
Monitor stock levels, request materials, and ensure all materials used are suitable and logged.
Escort and supervise external contractors according to security procedures.
Maintain consistent radiomunication in line with local protocols.Operate estate vehicles or plant machinery when authorised.
Support emergency or urgent tasks safely and effectively.
Contribute to the continual improvement of local processes, practices, and service delivery.
Support tool control and maintain high security standards in designated work areas.
Promote a positive customer service culture and strong working relationships.
Fulfil responsibilities such as Fire Warden or First Aider if required.
Skills & Experience
Desirable:
At least two years’ experience as a mechanical engineer, plumber, or similar.
Knowledge of Water Supply Regulations and Legionella L8pliance.
Experience withmercial or industrial heating and water systems.
Strong understanding of planned preventative maintenance operations.
Qualifications
Essential:
Fully qualified tradesperson (NVQ Level 3) in mechanical engineering, plumbing, or equivalent.
Highly Desirable:
G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems Course.
Desirable (Training can be provided):
L8 Legionella awareness training.
