Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Children’s Residential Support Worker to join our residential care team in Cromford, Derbyshire. The role involves supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), additional needs, and challenging behaviours within a safe, nurturing, and structured residential environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting positive outcomes for young people by providing emotional support, guidance, and practical care while encouraging independence, education, and personal development.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in a residential setting.
* Build positive and trusting relationships with young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Support children with daily routines, personal care, education, appointments, and activities.
* Manage challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
* Promote safeguarding, health and safety, and the wellbeing of all children and young people.
* Act as a positive role model, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence.
* Complete accurate records, incident reports, risk assessments, and care documentation.
* Work collaboratively with social workers, schools, healthcare professionals, and families.
* Support children to engage in education, hobbies, and community activities.
* Participate in team meetings, training, and shift handovers.
* Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment.
* Support new staff members and contribute positively to team development where required.
Essential Requirements
* Previous experience working with children and young people in residential care or support settings.
* Experience supporting children with EBD, additional needs, and challenging behaviours.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* Flexible approach to shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
* Full UK driving licence preferred.
Desirable Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Children and Young People.
* Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or first aid.
