Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading biomass company to recruit a Shift Maintenance Technician for its site in Thetford. Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Maintenance Technician role Reporting to the Shift Team Leader you will: Act as the on-shift site presence, supporting the operations team by identifying and reporting potential issues. Carry out first-line maintenance on mechanical systems, including: pumps, valves, fans, compressors, motors etc Operate a telehandler as needed for site support (e.g., moving materials, equipment access). Complete routine operational checks and performance readings, accurately logging data and reporting anomalies. Respond promptly to alarms, equipment faults, or abnormal conditions, escalating when required. Support planned and reactive maintenance activities within your capability. Conduct visual inspections to identify wear, damage, leaks, or safety issues. Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and compliance in line with site procedures and health & safety regulations. Assist in isolating equipment and making it safe for further maintenance (where trained and competent). Communicate effectively with the operations and engineering teams to ensure smooth plant performance. Participate in shift handovers and maintain clear and detailed shift logs. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance or operations role within an industrial environment (power generation, biomass, utilities, or similar). NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, or similar. Basic fault-finding and repair skills across mechanical systems. Valid telehandler (or similar plant) operator certification or willingness to obtain. Personal skills · Strong communication and reporting skills. · High regard for safety and environmental standards. Comfortable working independently on a shift pattern, including nights.
