We are seeking a dynamic, passionate and inspiring Teacher of English to join our thriving English & Media Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding classroom practitioner who is committed to delivering high-quality teaching and learning from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5, with the potential to teach up to A Level.

Person Specification

* Demonstrate a strong track record of securing excellent outcomes in English, or show clear potential to do so

* Have strong subject knowledge and a passion for English that inspires learners

* Be an effective and confident communicator who is energetic, enthusiastic and enjoys working with young people

* Bring fresh ideas and creativity, using their love of the subject to engage, enthuse and challenge students

* Be highly organised and an effective classroom manager, creating a positive learning environment with high expectations through a wide range of up-to-date and successful teaching strategies

* Work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute positively to the wider life of the school

* Be willing to support enrichment opportunities, including extracurricular activities and residential visits

* Have the ability to work successfully with students across the full ability range, both in groups and on a one-to-one basis

An enhanced DBS certificate will be required for the successful applicant.

The postholder will contribute to the continued development of the College by:

* Delivering consistently high-quality teaching and pedagogy that supports the College’s journey towards outstanding

* Maintaining the highest standards of classroom practice and behaviour, aligned with whole-school expectations

* Actively contributing to the development of a positive ethos and culture that reflects the College’s values

* Securing the highest possible academic outcomes for students in English

Supporting the Development of Students

The postholder will:

* Model consistently high standards of professional conduct and personal integrity

* Demonstrate excellent classroom practice that promotes engagement, challenge and progress for all learners

* Show strong emotional literacy when working with students, families and colleagues, including in high-pressure situations

* Use resources innovatively and efficiently to support outstanding learning in English

* Engage with and apply best practice from local, national and international research to improve teaching and learning

* Create and maintain a stimulating, inclusive and safe learning environment within English

* Monitor, track and analyse student progress effectively, using assessment information to identify gaps, address underachievement and ensure consistency of provision

* Engage fully with the College’s Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) programme, identifying personal training needs and implementing strategies to meet them

Supporting Professional Development and Practice

The postholder will:

* Commit to high-quality professional learning, including participation in the ECF, NPQ or other accredited programmes as appropriate

* Develop links with other institutions to share best practice and, where appropriate, co-develop resources

* Demonstrate agility and flexibility in professional practice, including a willingness to work across disciplines within a faculty structure where appropriate

* Teachers may be required to undertake other duties of a similar level, as reasonably requested by their line manager

* This reflects the current requirements of the role and may be amended, following consultation, to meet the evolving needs of the College

Teachers of English & Media are line-managed by the Faculty Director of English & Media
