1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant – Full-Time, Long-Term

Daily Pay: £85–£105 (depending on experience)
Supply Desk is proud to be working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Elstree, seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) on a full-time, long-term basis from February 2026.

Role Overview:
This position involves providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with autism, helping them access learning, develop social communication skills, and build confidence within the classroom setting. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to implement tailored strategies and ensure consistent support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide consistent, structured 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition.
• Implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies.
• Support communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
• Adapt classroom resources and activities to meet individual needs.
• Use visual timetables, sensory strategies, and structured routines where appropriate.
• Foster a calm, predictable, and supportive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and contribute to review meetings and reports.

Ideal Candidate:
• Previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs is highly desirable.
• Understanding of ASC, sensory processing needs, and structured support strategies (e.g. visual aids, routine-based support).
• Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
• Confident supporting behaviour linked to communication or sensory needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Holds, or is willing to apply for, an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
