Overview
The Project
NHS England has commissioned this programme to train 150 mental health staff, drawn from across the seven HEE regions, annually. Ensuring successful training of this group of staff will require not only excellence in teaching but also in coordination of students and supporting them with the typical difficulties’ implementation of a new psychological therapy brings to a service. The postholder will play a crucial role in supporting the high standards of assessment on the programme. This post offers an exciting opportunity to change the face of the delivery of DBT across the NHS in England and to work alongside experts in their field to develop skills.
Purpose of the Job
1. To teach at postgraduate level.
2. To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment and contribute to module co-ordination.
3. To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
4. To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Programme Director.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching duties will include:
5. Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
6. Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning, and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
7. Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments.
8. Contribute to the development of new programmes and module co-ordination.
9. Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
10. Publish evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:
11. Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the programme.
12. Contribute to the School's management, and participate in the administration of postgraduate programmes (e.g. contribute to accreditation/QA procedures).
13. Contribute to the marketing of the programmes by participating in marketing initiatives.
14. Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Programme Director.

15. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential
20. Professional accreditation as a mental health professional.
21. Accredited DBT therapist with SfDBT.
Desirable
22. Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or be close to the completion OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
23. Effective teaching capability in DBT and / or psychological therapy.
Desirable
24. Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
25. Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
26. Evidence of scholarship relating to learning and teaching through publication of books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
27. Evidence of Conference and/or seminar presentations on pedagogy.
