Our client, a vibrant and high-achieving secondary academy based in Croydon, is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Senior Science Technician to join their dedicated team from September 2025. As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Science curriculum (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), ensuring that teaching staff and students benefit from a well-organised and safe practical learning environment. This role involves a blend of technical expertise, team management, and administrative coordination, making it ideal for someone with strong scientific knowledge and a proactive, collaborative approach.
Main Responsibilities:
* Prepare and maintain equipment and materials to support science lessons
* Assist in practical lessons and support enrichment activities
* Oversee the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
* Manage and coordinate the science technician team, including workload allocation and performance reviews
* Conduct safety checks, maintain risk assessments, and ensure Health & Safety compliance
* Keep accurate records and manage inventory for chemicals, resources, and equipment
* Support teaching staff with practical demonstrations and layout setup in laboratories
* Provide general administrative and resource support to the Science department
* Maintain the welfare of plants and animals used for scientific study
* Modify or create equipment as required from staff instructions or lesson needs
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Relevant qualifications and/or further training in science or laboratory practice
* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations related to science education
* Strong numeracy, literacy, organisational, and communication skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Experience working in a laboratory or school science setting
* Ability to manage and train other technicians
* A flexible and proactive mindset with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities
