Position Details
Band 5 Specialist Sedation Dental Nurse – 33.75 hours / 0.9 WTE for 12 months.
Qualifications
* The post-holder must hold a Dental Sedation Certificate (IHS).
* Must be up to date with Sedation training and able to supply a copy of their CPD log related to the Sedation specialism.
* Must be flexible and able to travel to other sites/locations within the division.
Responsibilities
* Support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care.
* Ensure adherence to all Trust policies and procedures.
* Provide high‑quality clinical nursing support for specialties across Dental Services Division clinical sites to meet patient needs.
* Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics and manage patients with complex dental, social, and medical needs.
* Control stock rotation and order dental consumables from appropriate suppliers.
* Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste, including bodily fluids.
* Support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (e.g., height, weight, blood pressure).
* Carry out duties relevant to the role as specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
* Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the patient pathway.
* Identify staff and students requiring additional training within the specialty and elevate as appropriate.
* Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy, and relevant Heads of Service in providing team training for all disciplines.
* Adhere to procedures to support and maintain national compliance targets.
* Implement agreed local Divisional and Trust policies.
* Implement outcomes related to Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement for the specialty.
