What you will do: Liaise with hospital staff, bereaved families, funeral directors, Coroners Officers, police, and medical professionals to ensure smooth operations. Assist relatives and police in the identification of deceased persons, providing empathetic support to grieving families. Oversee the daily administration and maintenance of the mortuary, reporting deficiencies to ensure safety and efficiency. Manage the reception and secure storage of deceased individuals, ensuring respectful and hygienic conditions. Supervise the legal and safe discharge of deceased persons to funeral directors. Liaise with Bereavement Officers regarding certificates for disposal and cremation, and provide cover for the Bereavement Office when required. Prepare bodies for post- mortem examinations, assist in teaching demonstrations, and manage the collection and storage of laboratory specimens. Collaborate with medical teams for organ donation and retrieval processes. Train staff on mortuary procedures and health and safety practices, supporting them in obtaining professional qualifications. Provide on- call support for H. M. Coroner and Trust emergencies.
