We are seeking an experienced, professional, and highly organised School Business Manager (SBM) to join a primary school in Dagenham, starting as soon as possible. The SBM will play a key role in supporting the Headteacher and governing body in strategic and operational management. The Role As the School Business Manager, you will take responsibility for the school’s operational, financial, and administrative functions. You will lead office staff, manage budgets, oversee HR matters, and coordinate site and facilities management. You will also act as a point of contact for external agencies, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring all operations comply with school policies, safeguarding, and statutory requirements. This role requires excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to prioritise competing demands in a busy school environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee school finances, including budgets, payroll, and financial reporting Lead and manage administrative and office staff Manage HR processes, including recruitment, contracts, and staff records Coordinate site management, health and safety, and compliance procedures Liaise with external agencies, contractors, and suppliers Support the Headteacher and governing body with strategic and operational planning Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the school office and administrative systems Contribute to school policies, procedures, and development plans Promote a professional, efficient, and welcoming school environment The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Have significant experience in school administration, finance, or management Demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills Be confident with financial management, HR, and compliance procedures Be proactive, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities Show a commitment to safeguarding and the values of a school environment The school is located in Dagenham, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
