People & Culture Advisor at Port of Aberdeen
WHAT WE NEED
We are seeking an experienced Marine Pilot to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for ship-handling and be capable of conducting pilotage acts as required under the Port of Aberdeen Pilotage Directions.
The Marine Pilot will assist the Harbour Master and team in ensuring the safe and efficient handling of shipping activities in accordance with the Aberdeen Harbour Acts and the Port Marine Safety Code.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe navigation of vessels requesting pilotage services and will oversee the safe movement of vessels from sea to berth following established procedures.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience in pilotage.
* Seagoing experience as a Chief Officer or Mate, with a qualification such as Chief Mate II/2 (unlimited) or equivalent.
* Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code and its application.
* Understanding of pilotage, VTS, vessel berthing and mooring, ship handling characteristics, charts, and surveying.
* Basic Sea Survival or PST certification.
* STCW / RYA 1st Aid certification.
* Valid ENG1 Medical or ability to obtain one.
* Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
* Understanding of working and covering 24-hour shifts on a 365-day roster.
* Effective communication skills at all levels, with internal and external stakeholders.
* Willingness to undertake further training as necessary.
* Understanding of the legal and regulatory environment for statutory and competent harbour authorities.
* Knowledge of port operations.
* Full driving license.
SALARY AND HOURS
The salary starts from £83,895 per annum, with increases based on progression through Pilotage Authorization Classes within the Port District.
The role involves an average of 37 hours per week on a rota of 8-9 hour shifts, including night shifts.
