Project Engineer
Location: St. Louis, MO
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
ESPO Corporation is seeking a Project Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a leading EPC client in the St. Louis, MO area. This role supports high-voltage transmission and substation projects and offers hands-on exposure across the full EPC lifecycle—from early concept through construction and closeout. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering fundamentals, proven project coordination experience, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and lead projects from conceptual development through engineering, procurement, construction, and final closeout
* Manage multiple concurrent overhead transmission and substation projects ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV
* Collaborate with technical teams to understand project interdependencies and establish logical construction sequencing
* Maintain detailed project financials in coordination with the project team
* Maintain detailed project schedules with support from project scheduling resources
* Implement and follow standardized project management lifecycle processes to ensure consistent execution
* Leverage engineering education and technical background to effectively manage project scope, risks, and deliverables
* Serve as the primary point of contact with project Owners for client coordination, strategic planning, scope management, and budgeting
* Provide overall project management support, including:
o Siting and environmental coordination
o Permitting and planning
o Estimating and engineering oversight
o Right-of-way acquisition
o Project controls and procurement
o Constructability reviews
o Material management
o Construction management support
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (required)
* Minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering design experience on design-only and/or EPC projects
* 5+ years of Transmission & Distribution (T&D) experience preferred
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to lead team members and drive projects to successful completion
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
