The University has a requirement for a Lead Business Intelligence (BI) Developer who has significant skills and experience in cloud data warehousing and systems analysis/design. We are looking for a Data Warehouse Engineer with extensive experience of a Snowflake cloud based data platform. The primary focus of this role will be the development of the Snowflake data warehouse environment working within our Data Team and will include using ETL and modeling tools and Tableau/Power BI for reporting and data visualisations. The ideal candidate will be adept at working with large data sets to develop advanced, scalable Data Warehouse solutions end-to-end. The University is building a Cloud based Data Warehouse based on Snowflake hosted on MS Azure. The basic architecture has been established, and various system components talk to each other, with work remaining. This is a hands-on data engineering role where you will take ownership of the Data Platform within the Data Team and contribute to delivering the Data Strategy. You will work with a range of stakeholders and provide technical guidance on data ingestion, data usage, and turning insights into key business decisions. You must have strong experience with a variety of data architecture/data modelling techniques and a proven ability to design, develop and implement advanced data warehousing solutions.

This is a hybrid role with 2 days on campus each week.


Main Duties

* Systems design: Specifies and designs large or complex business intelligence solutions; selects appropriate software design standards, methods and tools consistent with enterprise and solution architectures; reviews designs to ensure appropriate technology, resource use, and integration.
* Programming/data lifecycle development: Contributes to BI programming standards and security guidelines; provides technical leadership across data development projects; assigns work packages, monitors performance, and manages change control; supports less experienced colleagues.
* Software release and deployment: Assesses release components, supports scheduling, coordinates builds and tests with testers and component specialists, and maintains release processes and procedures.
* Business intelligence methods and tools: Provides expertise and support on use of BI methods and tools.
* Emerging technology monitoring: Maintains awareness of new technology opportunities and contributes to briefings and presentations on relevance and value.
* Technology leadership and innovation: Provides guidelines to promote BI development, initiates and manages investigations of innovative methods, and facilitates knowledge sharing across stakeholders.
* Relationship and stakeholder management: Engages with stakeholders, handles problems to resolution, and helps develop customer and stakeholder relationships.
* Other duties: Supports equality, diversity and inclusion; contributes to University sustainability; performs other duties commensurate with the grade.
* Core competencies/transferable skills: Planning and organising, problem solving and decision making, and other leadership and teamwork capabilities as required.


Qualifications and Experience

* Snowflake certified with relevant hands-on experience.
* ETL tools and data pipelines using cloud ETL tools; Azure Data Factory is an advantage; advanced data ingestion techniques.
* Tableau/Power BI experience with integration to a cloud data warehouse.
* Data architecture and modelling experience (facts and dimensions, materialized views, etc.).
* Experience modelling with DBT (Data Build Tool).
* Experience with Python or similar language; experience with source control systems such as GIT.
* Experience working in Agile teams (Scrum or Kanban); experience supporting junior developers.
* RESTful and GraphQL API integration experience.
* CI/CD pipelines development with tools such as Azure DevOps, TeamCity, or Jenkins.
* Data Warehouse design knowledge, including best practices and common issues.
* Advanced SQL skills.
* API experience with Change Data Capture capabilities in Snowflake.
* Ability to present findings clearly with actionable insights; strong written and oral communication skills.
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy.
