Overview
The Specialist Clinician will join our Neurodevelopmental Diagnostic and Support Team in Bedfordshire, working within a multidisciplinary team of Community Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals. The role focuses on leading high‑quality autism and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, delivering feedback to families and supporting pathway development across the county.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead autism and neurodevelopmental assessments, utilising ADOS‑2 and other developmental tools.
* Provide specialist input into differential diagnosis across neurodevelopmental conditions (including DLD, ASD, and other neurodevelopmental disorders).
* Deliver written reports, care plans and feedback to families and multidisciplinary team members.
* Support and contribute to the development of local neurodevelopmental pathways and service improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with the wider community paediatric service and educational teams to establish effective assessment pathways.
* Supervise and provide clinical support to team members, including student placements and peer review.
* Engage in continuous professional development and specialist training (e.g., ADOS‑2 training, communication difficulties).
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or relevant professional body.
* Experience working with children and young people who have neurodevelopmental differences.
* Proven ability to use assessment tools such as ADOS‑2 and to produce clear, evidence‑based reports.
* Background in Speech and Language Therapy, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or an equivalent role is desirable.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and team‑working skills, with the ability to engage families and multidisciplinary partners.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to service governance and quality standards.
