Directorate: Public Health and Public Protection Pay Level: 6 £36,508 to £40,958, fully inclusive of Local Weighting Allowance Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 37 hours per week Location: Observatory House/ Slough Hybrid (requirement to visit other Slough sites) DBS requirement: Standard The closing date for applications is midnight on 17th March 2026 Interviews will be held on the 24th and 25th March 2026 What you’ll be doing: We are looking for a Senior Active Communities Officer to join our team at Slough Borough Council. This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of local residents through sport, leisure and physical activity. The role focuses on working with communities, partners and leisure providers to create opportunities that help people of all ages become more active. The successful candidate will play an important role in monitoring leisure and sport services delivered on behalf of the council. This includes working closely with contractors, reviewing performance data, supporting improvement planning and ensuring services meet the needs and expectations of residents. You will work with a wide range of partners, including community organisations, sports clubs, schools, health professionals and council colleagues across public health, parks, community engagement and social care. Together, you will help develop and promote programmes that encourage participation in sport, play and physical activity, particularly for groups facing barriers to being active. The role will also involve supporting volunteers, promoting community initiatives, helping develop events and campaigns, and identifying funding opportunities to support sustainable programmes. An important part of the position will be gathering and analysing data to understand the impact of programmes and demonstrate how they contribute to improving health outcomes. Experience of partnership working, community engagement, project delivery and monitoring performance would be valuable in this role. Annual increments, where applicable, are usually payable on 1st April each year, subject to six months' service in the post, until the maximum spinal column point of the level has been reached.
