Data Scientist / Statistician (Model Developer) – Nottingham

About this role
Our Data Science team focuses on developing machine learning and AI solutions to solve business problems and deliver actionable insights. This role primarily focuses on feature engineering, insight generation from new data types, and building machine learning models to address underwriting challenges.
Preferred experience includes working with Open Banking or Credit Bureau data, deep grounding in statistics, and experience with Model Risk Management.
What you’ll do
* Develop and maintain machine learning models that provide a competitive advantage in financial services.
* Explore and evaluate data using advanced feature generation and categorisation techniques to stay at the forefront of innovation.
* Analyze tabular and non‑tabular data—text, logs, time series—to produce powerful insights.
* Consult on complex statistical test design to efficiently learn new market areas.
* Combine business acumen, coding, and statistical skills to navigate large data sets and deliver actionable solutions, working cross‑functionally to support key initiatives and drive growth.
What we’re looking for
* Strong understanding of probability, statistics, machine learning, feature extraction, and large‑dataset manipulation.
* Experience with deep‑learning models, especially for sequential data.
* Familiarity with Open Banking or Credit Bureau data.
* Experience working with multi‑modal data from diverse sources.
* Ability to produce reliable, maintainable Python code and adapt to new languages and technologies.
* Experience in Model Risk Management: documentation, coding best practices, validation, and ongoing monitoring.
* Natural curiosity and proactive engagement across the business, challenging the status‑quo and identifying data science value.
* Strong communication skills—able to influence diverse business audiences verbally and in writing.
* Commitment to continuous learning to develop enterprise‑level solutions.
Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office. We have a hybrid working model: three days a week (Tuesday‑Thursday) in the office and two days (Monday, Friday) working from home. Flexible arrangements can be discussed.
