PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £45,733 depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and some sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and digital platforms.
The Location team is responsible for resourcing and supporting outside broadcasts for Radio, News, and for Production Services who supply and support kit to self-shooters. Our team work on some of the BBCs highest profile events ranging from music (Glastonbury, the Proms) to Sport (Euros, Olympics) to News (coverage of the Party Conferences, elections as well as breaking News events).
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
As Base Manager for Media Operations Location you will play a key role coordinating the daily running of base operations. You will have the opportunity to help facilitate site safety, team engagement, clear communication, growth, and enthusiasm within the base. You will be responsible for ensuring team members, equipment, resources, and vehicle requirements are allocated to deliver operational and broadcast support requirements, while anticipating and addressing issues which may arise while ensuring that all building maintenance and facilities issues are dealt with promptly to ensure business continuity.
Finally, you will act as the on-site manager and deputise for the Operations Manager as and when needed.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
• Engage and build relationships with operational staff, internal and external service providers such as facilities management and broadcast equipment hire companies, ensure clear, timely communication and liaison with operational team, planners, Operations Managers, and other stakeholders
• Ensure health and safety practices and compliance requirements are observed and understood.
• Effectively manage and grow the team through positive leadership, carrying out Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) for direct reports where appropriate, ensure the team make best use of business systems and processes in place to provide most efficient way of working, ensuring that systems are up-to-date and current.
• Lead and coordinate the workload of the base team and take on the line management responsibility to manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day logistics, allocation, and stores functions to ensure that the right equipment is in the right place at the right time, taking a proactive approach.
• Work closely with the Fleet and Transport Operations team to ensure vehicle and driver scheduling, is undertaken in line with all relevant vehicle, maintenance, and driver legislation.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
• Knowledge and experience in scheduling a diverse team across varying shift patterns, together with IT skills and the ability to use standard Office software packages.
• Experience supervising or managing a team and knowledge of related policy, practice, and procedures.
• Demonstrable experience of a similar critical service delivery environment (e.g. warehouse or hire company)
• Examples of engaging with a wider team and stakeholders and working effectively as part of a team, contributing to wider business discussions.
• Examples of focus on safety, risk management and protecting the team, operations, and public to ensure that the BBCs reputation for safe working remains intact.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
• Understanding of the programme making and outside broadcast environment.
• Examples of detailed planning, organisational and administration skills including manipulating, understanding, and presenting data.
• Health and safety, DSE awareness and ability to learn vehicle and driver compliance requirements.
