Job Overview
The Environment Agency (EA) works to create a better place for people and wildlife. We protect and improve the environment, support sustainable growth, and help communities adapt to a changing climate. Our EA2030 strategy outlines a commitment to become a net‑zero organisation by 2030, with Defra Group Fleet Services leading the move to a net‑zero carbon fleet. This senior role supports the delivery of ambitious sustainability goals and positive change across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Lead high‑value and complex procurements and service contracts for the EA and its Defra partners.
- Work with senior colleagues to understand business needs, develop commercial approaches and manage the full procurement cycle from tender to contract award.
- Manage important supplier relationships, set clear expectations, monitor performance, and collaborate with suppliers to reduce environmental impact while ensuring safety, compliance and cost effectiveness.
- Deliver innovative and compliant solutions aligned with government standards, policy and best practice.
- Drive supplier performance through effective contract management, ensuring delivery against service, quality and contractual commitments while achieving value for money.
- Generate meaningful insights by overseeing systems that monitor contract performance, compliance and risk, translating data into clear recommendations for senior leaders.
Qualifications
- At least five (5) years’ experience managing complex or high‑value contracts with a proven track record of improving supplier outcomes.
- Strong commercial acumen and knowledge of public sector procurement.
- Experience leading policy and governance, including developing and improving frameworks, processes, and standards at national and local levels.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills: build and maintain strategic relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to influence decisions and support organisational priorities.
- Ability to lead confidently, manage competing priorities, and deliver results with autonomy and pace.
- Defra experience is advantageous.
