Healthcare Assistant – Albyn Hospital
Position: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week. Salary: up to £24,947 per year (depending on experience, training and qualification). Working hours: typically 08:00 – 16:00, with shifts varying depending on clinic activity.
Responsibilities
* Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care and mobility needs, respecting preferences and dignity.
* Help patients with eating, drinking and nutritional support, recording intake where required.
* Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring safe environment.
* Carry out and record routine observations – blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation and blood glucose levels (after training).
* Support basic clinical procedures: wound care set‑up, catheter care assistance, pressure area prevention, mobility aids.
* Prepare and maintain clinical areas – trolleys, beds, equipment – ready for patient use.
* Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care.
* Coordinate and undertake diagnostic tests for pre‑operative patients, including ECG and phlebotomy as instructed by Registered Nurses.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community or domiciliary).
* Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
* Ability to follow instructions and appropriately raise concerns.
* Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
* Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality procedures.
