Band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacy assistant with a flexible approach to work, who is committed to delivering a high-quality, patient-focused pharmacy service.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team. You will play a key role within the department, supporting and mentoring junior staff while helping to maintain high standards across the service. This is a busy and physically demanding role which requires the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines effectively.
You will also support the delivery of pharmacy services to wards and departments on a rotational basis.
Key Areas of Work
* Dispensary – Work as part of the main dispensary team, contributing to the delivery of a safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing service.
* Stores – Ensure the safe, secure receipt and storage of medicines, maintaining appropriate stock levels and adhering to governance standards.
* Distribution – Support effective ward‑level stock management through topping‑up services and timely medicine distribution.
Main Duties
* Interpret and accurately dispense prescriptions and requests for medication.
* Participate in stock supply to wards and departments and re‑order as necessary.
* Receive goods into the department, unpack, check and put away deliveries against relevant paperwork.

There will be a requirement to participate in extended hours, including weekend working, bank holidays and late nights on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
* Secondary school level education and hold GCSE or equivalent (Grade C/4 or above) in Mathematics and English.
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent, including the dispensing module.
Experience
* Post NVQ Level 2 qualification, developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser.
* Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH.
* Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes.
* Knowledge of stock control systems.
* Knowledge of code of practice/customer care.
* Understanding of cost‑effective service delivery and required work practices to reduce waste.
* Previous experience within a Hospital Pharmacy setting.
* Experience in staff training.
* Working knowledge of JAC pharmacy system.
* Knowledge of drugs, side effects and where to find further information.
Skills and Ability
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to keep accurate records.
* Works to protocols and procedures.
