We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Speech & Language Therapist to join the Barnsley Adult Learning Disabilities Community Health Team.
The post is being offered as either a Band 5- 6 development position or Band 6 for a suitably qualified clinician. The successful Band 5 candidate will be supported through the required Preceptorship period. We also welcome applications from Band 6 candidates who are not qualified Dysphagia assessors, who if successful, would be offered the opportunity to complete the appropriate dysphagia course.
You will join a well-established multi-disciplinary team which includes Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, LD community Nurses, Psychiatry, Psychology, MDT Intensive Support Team, as well as Therapy Assistants and Healthcare Support Workers.

Main duties of the job
You will be a highly motivated and conscientious individual, who has the desire to work creatively with people with learning disabilities. Experience supporting people in a variety of activities and community settings would be an advantage.
You will be required to use your Speech and Language Therapy skills to support the assessment and delivery of high-quality therapeutic interventions to address the holistic needs of service users with a focus on communication and dysphagia.
You will be responsible for a defined caseload with service users of all levels of ability. Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a wider team, working alongside the multidisciplinary team, in service users homes, day services, respite facilities, and supported living environments.
You will have an understanding of the complex needs of people with learning disabilities and demonstrate qualities to deliver safe, effective and personalised care ensuring processes are followed in accordance with Trust values and objectives.
Due to the nature of the role, it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes.
