JOB BAND: E
CONTRACT TYPE: Attachment / Fixed-term Contract, Full-time until Thursday 30th April 2026. This role is a full-time day shift pattern with flexibility expected for output and can be offered as either a four day week or a five day week.

LOCATION: Belfast
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £51,000 - £61,833 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

EXTEND
This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC News NI has transformed its news operation to make it future fit in a rapidly changing and diversifying news media climate, with digital at its heart. We're looking for a Business Correspondent who can be part of this change and help drive content with a digital focus, as well as across TV and radio. They will work as part of the News Content team and alongside the Economics and Business Editor to deliver strong and authoritative journalism. They will work closely with the Digital News team to target opportunity audiences that aren't usually reflected across BBC NI News. They will provide comprehensive coverage of business and economic issues in Northern Ireland and have an in depth knowledge of issues arising from this specialist area.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
* To generate original stories that reflect business issues with a focus on delivering first for Digital.
* To provide content across platforms and work closely with the News Content team to rollout stories in a way that best suits the audience.
* To advise and direct on both breaking and developing stories and provide briefings to that team and Editor, News Content and Network News.
* To build relationships across output to ensure material is delivered to the highest editorial standards.
* Strong editorial judgement, in depth legal knowledge and a thorough understanding of the BBC's Editorial Guidelines.
* A strong contacts base to ensure BBC NI News is ahead of its competitors in covering business and economic issues.
* Able to analyse and interpret information in order to assess its relative value and importance to the news agenda.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Extensive experience of delivering original and impactful content across platforms.
* A track record in working in a Digital first way to break and rollout stories.
* In depth knowledge of business and economic issues and how they impact across communities in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the UK.
* Able to deal with complex editorial issues calmly and professionally in a pressurised environment.
* Ability to develop exclusive sources of information which deliver stories and enable authoritative and impactful journalism.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* Ability to function effectively and independently in the field.
* A proven track record of sound news judgement and editorial understanding.
* Evidence of driving original impactful journalism.
* Ability to use new and emerging technologies and embrace new ways of working.
* Values other people and helps create a culture that's diverse and inclusive.
