Salary/Benefits:

Salary is between £31,930 and £36,878 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications with a market supplement of up to £3,000 for successful candidates, 45 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and Annual Leave is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.


Hours/Weeks:

22.2 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in English to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

* Teaching & Assessment – Deliver high-quality English teaching across various levels, prepare schemes of work, assess student progress, and ensure awarding body standards are met.
* Student Support & Progression – Guide students through tutorials and feedback, helping them achieve their potential and progress academically and vocationally.
* Curriculum Development – Contribute to course innovation, develop engaging learning materials, and support the creation of new programmes aligned with strategic priorities.
* Quality & Administration – Maintain accurate records, meet funding and quality assurance requirements, and participate in course reviews, team meetings, and student feedback activities.
* College Engagement & Compliance – Support marketing events, uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety standards, and contribute to the wider college strategy and student experience.


About You

* Qualifications & Subject Expertise – Relevant degree or Level 5 qualification in English, Certificate in Education/PGCE (or willingness to achieve), and GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade A–C).
* Teaching Experience & Knowledge – Recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English, strong classroom management, and up-to-date knowledge of subject developments and awarding body standards.
* Communication & Collaboration – Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; able to build positive relationships across the College and contribute effectively to team goals.
* Organisation & Administration – Highly organised with strong planning skills, confident in using Microsoft Office, and able to complete administrative tasks accurately and on time.
* Professionalism & Values – Committed to safeguarding, EDI, continuous development, and promoting the College’s values and reputation; flexible and willing to work across locations with a valid driving licence.
