Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Based: Battersea Park
Salary: £55k-£60k
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Work Arrangement: 40 hours per week, Hybrid/Office
Role Overview:
* The Leisure Team are passionate about benefitting the local community through sports and leisure activities. We are experts in our service and pride ourselves on our customer experience and inclusivity through affordable or complementary programmes reaching those that need it the most. The leisure team want to enrich all lives within Wandsworth leading on the needs of the community, delivering programmes that reach out to local places and people, removing barriers and increasing access to activity.
* You will lead the Enable leisure services to deliver both outstanding commercial performance and significant community impact. You will ensure our leisure facilities and programmes are financially sustainable, operationally excellent, and accessible to all. This includes driving participation growth, particularly among deprived and underrepresented groups, fostering healthier, more active communities through our portfolio or Leisure facilities and the Active Communities team.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Service Leadership
* Provide visionary leadership for Sports Services and Active Communities, shaping a high-performing portfolio that delivers measurable social impact and commercial success.
* Lead the creation and execution of ambitious business plans and service strategies that drive growth, innovation, and community impact.
* Set and maintain exceptional standards, ensuring all services consistently exceed performance, quality, and compliance benchmarks.
Financial Leadership
* Take full accountability for service budgets, ensuring robust financial control and long-term sustainability.
* Work with the central growth team to utilise funding and grants.
* Ensure the teams work with the operations team on capital investment projects, optimising the organisation’s assets and leveraging emerging industry trends to maximise return on investment.
Strategic Development & Growth
* Design and deliver forward-thinking service plans that align with national, regional, and London-wide policies, positioning the organisation as a sector leader in inclusive leisure.
* Embed wider Council strategies into the core of service planning and daily operations, ensuring every initiative actively contributes to increasing physical activity participation and improving community wellbeing.
* Work with growth team when they have identified, evaluated, and secure additional contracts that complement and enhance both service and business objectives.
Stakeholder Influence & Engagement
* Ensure the right level of information is provided to Councillors, council departments, partners, and the public.
* Maintain strong relationships with professional bodies, institutes, and key sector networks to stay ahead of market developments.
Programme Impact & Delivery
* Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of programmes that significantly increase participation in sport and physical activity.
* Drive continual improvement to optimise facility usage, enhance customer experience, and maximise community benefit.
* Champion and coordinate the distribution of impactful publicity, marketing, and educational materials to increase visibility and engagement.
Governance, Reporting & Accountability
* Provide clear, evidence-based reports to the Leadership Team on performance, impact, and strategic achievements.
* Offer strategic advice to senior leaders, influencing decision-making at the highest level.
* Lead on a leisure deashboard to understand trends, usage and areas to grow.
* Provide reports for leadership and clientside as and when required.
Innovation & Transformational Leadership
* Identify and capitalise on innovative funding streams, partnerships, and delivery models to strengthen both financial and social returns.
* Inspire a culture of proactive, values-driven leadership across the service, acting as a visible role model for staff and stakeholders.
* Present bold, evidence-backed ideas to the executive team and Board, shaping the future direction of leisure services.
Generic Duties
* Comply with Enable policies, including data protection and health & safety.
