Senior Primary Design Engineer
Working for a market‑leading electrical engineering and infrastructure consultancy delivering high‑voltage substation and transmission projects across the UK. Role Description
The Resolute Group is working in partnership with a specialist in electrical engineering and substation design. This role is ideal for an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer looking to lead primary engineering design for substations up to 400kV. You will be responsible for producing detailed designs, specifications, and feasibility reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
The day‑to‑day duties may include:
Design
* Produce comprehensive design drawings for grid and primary substations.
* Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and associated designs for upgrades and new substations (11kV–132kV).
* Develop feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and GA drawings.
* Ensure all designs meet contractual and client requirements.
Project Management
* Coordinate with disciplines such as civils, protection, HV cables, and OHL engineers.
* Liaise with CAD technicians for drawing requirements.
* Attend design reviews and contract close‑out meetings.
* Manage submission of reports, drawings, and designs in line with procedures.
Systems Development
* Contribute to the development of substation capability and internal procedures.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of substation design practices and regulations.
Quality & Health & Safety
* Identify and manage health & safety risks.
* Produce CDM documentation and ensure compliance with QA and environmental standards.
Required Experience
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; minimum HNC with 5+ years relevant experience.
* Proven experience in HV/EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) up to 400kV.
* Strong knowledge of engineering standards, earthing, and electrical clearances.
* Ideally, membership of a professional institution and Chartered Engineer status.
