An exciting job opportunity has arisen for a well‑motivated, flexible and innovative individual working across the specialism of Hematology and Transfusion.
The service serves a population of over 400,000 patients and is based at both the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and the Calderdale Royal Hospital, where you will be expected to work across both sites.
The department is fully UKAS and MHRA accredited and has HCPC training status.
Main duties of the job
The Hematology department is equipped with Siemens Hema analysers and Werfen ACL TOPS coagulation analysers.
The Blood Transfusion service is delivered via the Grifols Eflexis automated blood grouping system and operates a state‑of‑the‑art Blood Track System – Haemonetics, ensuring quality and safety for collection, processing, storage and administration of human blood components.
Participation in the 24/7 rota will be expected following a period of training. Applicants should be suitably qualified state‑registered biomedical scientists with HCPC registration and a completed specialist portfolio.

Qualifications / Training
* Accredited degree in Biomedical Science and a completed registration portfolio
* State registration with the HCPC
* Demonstrate a commitment to and participation in continued professional development; create a personal development plan
* Willing to undertake postgraduate qualification e.g., specialist portfolio
* Fully trained in all areas of the Clinical Haematology & Transfusion department
Knowledge, Experience & Expertise
* Experience of working as part of a team
* Experience with laboratory computer systems
* Willingness to take part in providing out‑of‑hours service
* Ability to deal with sensitive data in accordance with departmental and Trust guidelines
* Demonstrate a sound knowledge base in laboratory practice in Clinical Haematology & Transfusion
* Knowledge of the specimen pathways for all samples, including reference laboratory tests
* Experience of training other staff members
* Experience of working within a Clinical Haematology & Transfusion Department
* Supervision of MLA and assistant/associate practitioner grade staff
* Experience of stock control systems
* Experience of involvement in laboratory and clinical audit
* Active participation in service development
* Knowledge and understanding of laboratory accreditation and other quality standards associated with Clinical Haematology & Transfusion laboratories
* Ability to run, maintain and fault‑find laboratory equipment
* Prepare and give presentations on results of trials or audit to interested parties in the Trust
Communication and Relationships (including management responsibilities)
* Willingness to comply with departmental dress code
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to communicate at all levels, both written and verbal, with all levels of staff and the customers of the service
