Job Description
The Kitchen Porter at Meat & Social is an essential member of the back-of-house team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organisation, and smooth running of the kitchen. This role requires hard work, reliability, and a positive attitude, ensuring that chefs have the support they need to deliver high-quality dishes. Kitchen Porters will also sometimes assist with basic food preparation, stock handling, and adherence to health and safety standards, contributing to the overall efficiency of the restaurant's operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Organisation:
* Wash and sanitise all kitchen utensils, dishes, and equipment promptly and efficiently.
* Keep kitchen floors, surfaces, and work areas clean, safe, and organised at all times.
* Ensure rubbish and recycling are disposed of correctly and regularly.
* Maintain cleanliness of storage areas, walk-in fridges, and freezers.
Support for Kitchen Operations:
* Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, chopping, or portioning.
* Transport supplies and stock to the required kitchen areas.
* Ensure equipment and utensils are readily available for chefs during service.
* Restock cleaning products and kitchen supplies as required.
Health, Safety & Hygiene:
* Follow all food hygiene and safety regulations, including allergen protocols.
* Report any equipment faults or hazards to the Head Chef or Sous Chef. Handle chemicals and cleaning products safely, following training guidelines.
* Ensure cleaning schedules are followed and documented.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
* Work closely with chefs and FOH teams to maintain a smooth flow of service.
* Provide flexible support during busy service periods.
* Contribute to a positive and respectful kitchen culture.
Attributes and Skills:
* Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting is preferred.
* Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods is advantageous.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment.
* A keen interest in culinary arts and hospitality is highly desirable.
* Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively with colleagues.
