Role Overview
As Kitchen Manager, lead a team of 1 Sous Chef and 5 Catering Assistants to provide freshly prepared meals for approximately 60 boarding students. Responsibilities include managing menus, food production, purchasing, and stock control, with a focus on from-scratch cooking.
Manage kitchen operations, including cleanliness, safety, policies, and procedures.
Shift Pattern Overview:
* 5 days over 7, alternating shifts 7:00 AM–3:00 PM and 11:30 AM–7:30 PM.
* Occasional full-day shifts when covering for the Sous Chef, with overtime paid.
* Typical days off are Friday and Saturday or Sunday and Monday, with every third weekend off.
During outside term time, work with larger catering team for private lettings and programs, with no split shifts required. Term-time only contracts are available.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage menus, food production, and purchasing within budget.
* Ensure kitchen cleanliness and safety compliance.
* Implement policies to improve efficiency.
* Provide progress reports to management.
* Lead and develop kitchen staff, conduct performance reviews.
* Maintain health and safety standards and food safety regulations.
* Coordinate with the House Master and Matron, attend food committee meetings.
Person Specification
* Excellent culinary skills and leadership ability.
* Business management experience in a kitchen environment.
* Passion for food and service excellence.
* NVQ Level 2 in professional cookery or equivalent (desirable).
