Laboratory Technician
12 week Temporary Contract
37 hours working Friday to Monday 9am-6.45pm
Based at Church Wilne Treatment Works
£14.85 per hour
We are currently looking to recruit for a Laboratory Technician for our client working within the Water industry. This is a 12 week placement and would suit a Post Graduate or Under graduate from a scientific degree or someone who has some relevant Scientific laboratory experience.
The main purpose of the role is to assist Senior Technicians undertaking various Laboratory based duties.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
• Having a good understanding of laboratory processes, allowing identification and interpretation of atypical results or scenarios to ensure the correct action is taken.
• Prioritise and plan work daily to achieve fully optimised approach, taking into account workstream volumes and sample stability. Be flexible and be able to adapt to last minute changes in priorities.
• Safe operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation by completion of comprehensive training. Understanding and adherence to operating procedures at all times in the respect to the use of all laboratory and associated equipment
• Maintain all equipment through maintenance, cleaning & calibration regimes. Undertake stringent quality control checks and ensure efficient working of laboratory equipment by investigating and resolving any issues.
• Accountable for personal Health & Safety including conducting dynamic risk assessments and role modelling excellent practices to ensure a Health & Safety culture. Must be aware of COSHH requirements to prevent or reduce exposure to substances that are hazardous to health.
• Perform the duties of the role in compliance with company safety standards
To be successful, it’s expected that you’ll ideally have a minimum of six months lab experience, 5 higher grade GCSE’s or equivalent and a minimum of HNC, HND, NVQ Level 3 in relevant Chemistry / Biology subject or equivalent. It is desired if you have a higher qualification in a scientific discipline or have a membership with a professional body.
You’ll need to have an analytical, methodical mindset and the ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a team. You’ll also need strong IT and problem-solving skills and good attention to detail with the ability to keep accurate records
