Overview

SPID Theatre Company is seeking a proactive and highly organised Stage Manager to support The Dream production from rehearsals through to performance. You will work closely with the Director, Producer, and creative team to ensure the smooth running of rehearsals, technical preparation, and performances.


About the Project

The Dream, written and directed by Nnenna Samson Abosi, was first performed in 2020 as a radio play produced by SPID Theatre as part of their Estate Endz community theatre programme. Inspired by the Mangrove 9, the lived experience of the Windrush generation, the Race Relations Acts, and the Black Power movement, The Dream highlights Black British activism and community resilience.

This new stage adaptation will celebrate the Windrush generation, cultural pride, and anti-racist history through theatre and storytelling, and will run alongside a curated exhibition for Windrush Day.

Your Role

Stage Manager

We’re seeking a proactive and highly organised Stage Manager to support The Dream production from rehearsals through to performance. You will work closely with the Director, Producer, and creative team to ensure the smooth running of rehearsals, technical preparation, and performances.


Who We’re Looking For

* 2+ years’ experience as a Stage Manager in theatre productions
* Strong organisational and multitasking skills
* Calm under pressure with excellent problem-solving abilities
* Good communication skills and ability to work with a diverse creative team
* Understanding of technical theatre processes (sound, lighting, props, set)
* Experience supporting community or youth-led productions (desirable)


Key Responsibilities

* Oversee rehearsals, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication
* Manage and maintain rehearsal notes, prompt book, and production paperwork
* Coordinate with the Director, Producer, and creative team on technical requirements
* Call cues and manage backstage during performances
* Support cast and crew throughout rehearsals and shows
* Ensure health and safety standards are met during rehearsals and performances
* Assist with props, costumes, and set where needed
* Problem-solve quickly and effectively to keep rehearsals and shows on track

Our productions blend theatre, activism, and community engagement, amplifying voices that are often unheard.

SPID Theatre Company is an innovative theatre organisation based in West London, dedicated to creating community and youth theatre projects on council estates with young people. Renowned for its DIY approach and prophetic passion, SPID showcases the fresh voices of the youth at its core. The company advocates for human dignity by promoting investment in social housing and engaging with those who have experienced housing injustice.


Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Stage Manager at SPID Theatre Company. The Stage Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the production process, including organising rehearsals, managing lighting and sound, coordinating with performers and directors, and ensuring that all technical elements are executed smoothly. This is an on-site role located in the London Area, United Kingdom.


Qualifications

* Experience with Lighting and Music
* Strong organisation skills and Event Planning experience
* Knowledge of Performing Arts
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks
* Experience in a similar role is beneficial
* A degree or equivalent experience in theatre production or a related field
