Overview

We are excited to announce the opening of two brand-new Options Autism schools in County Durham, designed to provide exceptional education and support for pupils with a variety of needs, including Autism. Strawberry Lane School, also located in Durham, accommodates 60 pupils aged 11 to 19 years. We are looking for a passionate SEN Teacher to contribute to the growth and success of this new school, with a start date in January 2026.

* Job Title: SEN Teacher
* Location: Strawberry Lane School - Durham, DH6 5BE
* Salary: Up to £42,000 dependent on experience and qualifications
* Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
* Contract: Permanent, Term Time only
* Eligibility: UK Applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.

This role involves using knowledge and passion to have a real impact on the lives of pupils and young people. As an SEN Teacher, you will take a creative approach to teaching pupils according to their educational needs, ensuring delivery of the school curriculum in a way that maximises pupil achievement and development.


About the role

* To secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and improve standards of learning and achievement for all pupils in consultation with the Headteacher.
* To teach a range of subjects as necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the school’s primary and secondary curriculums.
* Work may sometimes be undertaken outside the main teaching area.
* In consultation with the Headteacher undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum.
* To share the school’s responsibility to support and promote the learning, personal development and well-being of all students.


General responsibilities

* Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils and young people.
* Work in accordance with professional practice, statutory and legal requirements and school policies.
* Take on specific tasks related to day-to-day administration and organisation of the school.
* Take responsibility for specific areas of work which will be reviewed annually within the performance management cycle and school improvement process.
* Take on any additional responsibilities as determined from time to time.


Qualifications

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Suitable for ECT/NQT
