Job Purpose:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the ongoing development of the HAPS design record via the compilation of new designs or modification of existing designs for the Zephyr program as it proceeds towards certification.
The position requires the post holder to provide ‘at elbow’ support to the in-house engineering and production teams as they identify new designs or solutions to structural repairs that have occurred during build.
A comprehensive test program for a certifiable airframe is underway and you will support and assist this ensuring the CAD design record is fit for purpose.
We are looking for a candidate with broad engineering experience in the aviation industry but with specific demonstrable skills in aircraft design and analysis. We also require the individual to be able to coordinate and execute their own test/qualification routes from concept to cleared production article, so some ‘hands on’ practical skills would be useful.
Responsibilities:
* Provide detailed design solutions to satisfy internal and external customer requirements.
* Develop and define build processes/methodology required for the manufacture and/or installation of new designs.
* Oversee and guide the build of development aircraft installations and any supporting equipment(s) required to achieve the design aims in accordance with applicable regulations.
* Provide technical input and advice with regards product development, supporting the production team on design matters and any arising issues.
* Own/support any associated testing to clear designs, new or modification.
* Work closely with production and procurement teams to ensure consideration has been given for the detail manufacture and any outsourcing aspects of your design.
* Provide build line support to the production team – resolving emergent issues and maintaining agreed turnaround times of any arising queries.
* Capture agreed changes in-line with the change control processes to protect the content and currency of the issued design and build records.
Skills and Experience:
* Education: HNC or similar relevant qualification/experience in mechanical, aero or production engineering
* Proficient and current user of CAD - using SolidWorks.
* A sound understanding of aircraft configuration control.
* Experience of working with composite components
* Demonstrable experience of supporting and working within a production/manufacture environment – R and D only.
Additional desirable skills:
* Knowledge of EASA part G and part J
* Current experience of working with PDM and PLM toolsets.
* Experience of aircraft trials preparation, repair, and maintenance
