Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, manages day-to-day coding activities including coding, abstracting, and compliance. Ensures processes are administered accurately, compliantly, and timely to optimize reimbursement. Implements departmental policies to ensure compliance with CMS, HIPAA, OIG, and other agencies. Manages coding staff, attends meetings, provides training, and oversees coding and charge capture functions.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist Director in operational activities, revenue, and compliance issues. (10%)
2. Monitor service volumes for timely abstraction. (10%)
3. Review and report coding staff productivity, quality, and lag times. (10%)
4. Monitor quality assurance for coders and address issues. (10%)
5. Set and enforce staff expectations and performance appraisals. (10%)
6. Delegate responsibilities as needed. (10%)
7. Collaborate with departments to ensure charge capture and effective communication. (10%)
8. Maintain positive relationships with staff, providers, and patients. (5%)
9. Communicate courteously and respectfully. (5%)
10. Identify problems and implement solutions collaboratively. (5%)
11. Work with staff to provide timely information. (5%)
12. Respond promptly to questions with documentation or research. (5%)
13. Co-chair meetings and department functions. (5%)
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare or related certification(s) with experience or a combination thereof.
Work Experience:
5 years coding experience, 2 years in a supervisory role. Hospital-based experience preferred.
Licenses:
RHIA or RHIT certification required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of hospital coding and compliance, excellent communication, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

Salary:
$79,500 - $123,200 annually
