Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (Fixed Term)

This post is a replacement of an existing post but offers diverse roles and developmental opportunities tailored to the applicant's interests. It provides middle‑grade cover to the general paediatric, PAU at RGH and to the outpatient clinics under supervision of the consultants; and complements the existing middle‑grade posts in the department. The post holder will participate in a 1:8 prospective rolling rota sharing with existing specialty doctors.

This is a fixed‑term post of up to 1 year due to changes within the department.

The post holder will be based at RGH but may be expected to work across different sites within the Health Board depending upon needs.

Main duties of the job

• Conduct daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward, RGH and report to the consultant in charge; participate in PAU cover.
• Supervise junior medical team and serve as a source of advice and support to nursing staff.
• Attend A+E as requested by paediatrics junior doctors and consultants.
• Carry out safeguarding medical examinations when adequately trained.
• Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.
• See new and follow‑up General Paediatric patients in the clinics under supervision of consultant.
• Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the children's service.
• Manage acute paediatric intake at PCH with junior and consultant support.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have opportunities to develop expertise in an area of Paediatric specialty such as Epilepsy, Diabetes, Allergy, Asthma, Cardiology, Community Paediatrics and Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics.

The post holder will undertake professional development activities, audit and engage in the appraisal process.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration.
• oMRPCH part 1 a & b.
• oMRCPCH or equivalent.

Experience

• oNLS.
• Minimum 4 years or equivalent postgraduate training, two of which must be in Paediatrics.
• Experience of multi‑agency working.

Ability

• Able to keep good medical notes.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Understanding of child safeguarding.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Level 1-3 child protection training.
