We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial General Manager to lead the operations of a large, independent gym, wellness centre, and medical clinic in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. This is a senior-level position that requires an exceptional leader with a proven track record in managing fitness, wellness, and medical facilities. The ideal candidate will be commercially minded and capable of running the business independently—overseeing day-to-day operations, recruitment, systems implementation, and driving long-term growth. The General Manager will be the cornerstone of the business, ensuring financial performance, operational excellence, and member satisfaction. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the gym’s future, with the opportunity to expand into more sites as the business scales. Key Responsibilities: Financial Leadership and Commercial Accountability: P&L Management: Take full ownership of the club’s profit and loss account, ensuring alignment with strategic financial targets. Budget Development: Prepare, manage, and review detailed budgets, identifying opportunities to maximise profitability while maintaining high-quality service standards. Revenue Optimisation: Identify and implement strategies to drive all revenue streams, including memberships, personal training, retail, juice bars, and additional services. Cost Control: Establish stringent controls over payroll, supplier contracts, and operational expenses to achieve and exceed margin targets. Financial Reporting: Provide detailed financial analysis, including weekly and monthly reports on performance, variance analysis, and forecasts. Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage member data, demographics, and usage trends to identify growth opportunities and adjust offerings to meet market demands. Strategic Input: Collaborate with the Company Director to shape the business’s overall strategy, using financial insights to drive key decisions. Operational Excellence: Seamless Club Operations: Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient systems and an exceptional member experience. Compliance and Standards: Maintain adherence to health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards through audits and proactive issue resolution. Facility Management: Ensure world-class facilities, collaborating with contractors and internal teams to maintain cleanliness, upkeep, and operational functionality. Process Optimisation: Continuously refine operational processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and elevate service delivery. Crisis Management: Develop and implement contingency plans to address operational challenges swiftly and effectively. Sales and Marketing Leadership: Sales Strategy: Develop and execute robust sales plans to achieve and exceed membership and revenue targets. Marketing Campaigns: Oversee both local and digital marketing efforts to ensure effective campaign execution that aligns with the brand message. Event Management: Plan and execute community events and initiatives to drive engagement and member retention. Member Retention: Implement strategies to build long-term member relationships, reduce churn, and ensure sustained revenue growth. Sales Team Development: Lead and mentor the sales team to improve performance, conversion rates, and overall effectiveness. Team Leadership and Culture: Inspire the Team: Lead by example, motivating the team to deliver exceptional service and achieve business goals. Recruitment and Development: Attract, hire, and retain top talent, ensuring all team members are provided with the necessary tools and training to succeed. Performance Management: Conduct regular appraisals, set clear KPIs, and provide professional development plans for all team members. Team Engagement: Cultivate a positive, collaborative culture where accountability and continuous improvement are prioritised. Studio and PT Oversight: Manage studio schedules and personal trainer performance, ensuring quality delivery aligned with club objectives. Strategic Growth and Autonomy: Business Development: Lead the gym’s strategic direction, using creativity and business insights to shape offerings and deliver high returns. Scalability: Look to enhance the brand’s scalability, paving the way for future site management as the company expands. Autonomy: Implement and manage systems and processes independently, with the freedom to innovate and adapt as needed. Growth Opportunities: Demonstrate leadership and operational excellence to position yourself for career progression as the brand grows nationally and internationally. The Person: Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role within the fitness, wellness, or leisure industries. Financial Expertise: Proven experience in P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute strategies that align with broader business objectives and drive growth. Operational Excellence: Strong understanding of fitness and wellness operations, including compliance, service delivery, and facility management. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture. Sales & Marketing Skills: A track record of driving revenue through innovative sales and marketing strategies. Entrepreneurial Mindset: Creative, solution-oriented, and adaptable to changing business needs. Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Customer-Centric: Passionate about delivering outstanding member experiences and continually looking for ways to improve. Industry Expert: Strong understanding of fitness trends, membership growth strategies, and community engagement.
