Reports to: Facilities Manager

Location: Mont Rose College

Department: Facilities & Operations

Purpose

The Facilities Caretaker is responsible for ensuring the upkeep, safety, and security of the College's buildings and grounds. This includes carrying out minor repairs, grounds maintenance, cleaning duties (where required), and monitoring the performance of essential building systems. The role ensures that all Mont Rose College premises are well maintained, cost‑effective to operate, and compliant with relevant health and safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Building Maintenance & Safety

* Ensure the effective functioning of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other essential services.
* Conduct routine safety and security inspections, including fire evacuation routes and fire extinguisher checks; report defects promptly.
* Carry out minor repairs (e.g., replacing light bulbs, fixing door handles, basic plumbing tasks) and escalate issues requiring specialist attention.
* Complete weekly building walk‑throughs to identify faults and initiate repair actions.
* Record and monitor monthly meter readings across all campuses.

Security & Access Control

* Manage building opening and closing procedures in line with College security protocols.
* Report suspicious activity and ensure the security and integrity of all premises.
* Oversee key and lock management, update access control systems, and maintain accurate records.

Facilities Support & Logistics

* Safely move furniture and equipment, following manual handling guidelines.
* Receive deliveries, verify goods, and manage internal mail distribution.
* Maintain office supplies and ensure stationery levels are replenished.
* Assist with meeting room setups, refreshments, and AV equipment.
* Support College events, including venue setup, decoration, and post‑event clean‑up.

Cleaning & Grounds Maintenance

* Maintain outdoor areas, including litter picking and snow/ice removal.
* Clean designated building areas such as entrances, windows, stairways, and public spaces as required.
* Supervise the in‑house cleaning team, ensuring high cleanliness standards, and provide emergency cleaning support when needed.
* Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Contractor & Service Provider Management

* Coordinate external service providers for maintenance, cleaning, security, air conditioning, and other contracted services.
* Liaise with contractors on planned and reactive maintenance, refurbishment projects, and office moves.

Administrative & Compliance

* Maintain accurate records of all facilities‑related tasks and documentation.
* Operate an efficient filing and documentation system for facilities management.
* Ensure adherence to the College Health and Safety Policy.
* Undertake any other relevant duties as required.
* Provide administrative support to the Facilities Supervisor and wider Facilities team.

Requirements

* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Knowledge of health and safety regulations (desirable).
* Previous experience in a facilities or maintenance role.
* Basic IT skills.
* Good understanding of general maintenance practices.
* Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
* Willingness to undertake training for specific equipment or procedures.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Working Conditions

* Full‑time or part‑time on‑site role based at Mont Rose College.
* Occasional work outside normal hours to support events or urgent maintenance tasks.
