The Ophthalmology team is based at our new Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and provide specialist care and investigations with services also delivered via our Dewsbury, Pontefract sites and CDC site.

Main duties of the job
* Supporting the provision of General Ophthalmology with a subspecialty interest in Oculoplastic and Acute eye service or General Ophthalmology or any other subspecialty which complements the department.
* Delivery of outpatient clinics and day case surgery
* Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call; schedules will take due account of working time regulations and safe working
* On-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagues on a 1:8.5 rota, currently assessed as 0.89 PA.

The Ophthalmology team at Mid Yorkshire currently includes 9 Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, 8 Specialty Doctors and 3 Specialty Registrar, as well as Specialist Nurses, Optometrists and Orthoptists supported by a dedicated clinical secretariat team.
Our service is primarily based at the Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to provide specialist care and investigations. Care is also provided from our Dewsbury and Pontefract sites. We provide a full spectrum of secondary ophthalmic services including emergency care with a strategic aim to deliver a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service in both primary and acute care settings through our one purpose, one team, one trust approach. Services we provide include cataract, glaucoma, cornea, uveitis, lid, orbital and lacrimal, paediatric ophthalmology plus specialist care and treatment for adult ocular motility disorders and neuro-ophthalmic disorders. We are also part of many multi-centre clinical trials with research integral to what we do.

Job responsibilities
This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered, this post is also a locum post for 6 months. The role will be based primarily at the Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, with services at Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary.
Main duties include:

Person Specification
Experience
* Essential: Wide experience in management of Oculoplastic, Acute eye patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre
* Desirable: Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Oculoplastic or General Ophthalmology; specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work
Qualifications
* Essential: Medical Degree from recognised medical school; FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent
* Desirable: Fellowship in Oculoplastic or Acute eye service; Academic Prizes; Audit or Case Presentations; Teaching qualification / awards
Management Skills
* Essential: Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving; Good time management; Computer literate; Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
* Desirable: Good organisational and personal management skills; Evidence of personal contributions to service development; Awareness of the current UK Healthcare system and policy alignment
GMC Registration
* Essential: Full GMC Registration with licence to practise; Please state full GMC number
* Desirable: Fellowship in Oculoplastic or Acute eye service; Other listed items
