Job title: Senior Planning Engineer – Power Transmission & Distribution
Location: Bridgwater
Contract length: 6 months ongoing
Note on Location: This role requires a strong on-site presence (minimum 3-4 days per week in Bridgwater, sometimes 5 days depending on project needs and key issues).
Join a leading infrastructure delivery team within the Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector, focusing on essential national energy projects, including substation builds in the Somerset area. Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services is currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Planning Engineer to take immediate ownership of complex programmes and significantly influence project outcomes. This role is a key part of the delivery team, vital for maintaining programme integrity and driving performance.
You will be embedded within the project team at the Bridgewater site, working closely with the Senior Planning Manager. This team is responsible for managing and updating contract programmes, providing monthly reports and handling all planning aspects for major substation infrastructure.
As an On-site Senior Planning Engineer, your focus will be on monitoring and proactively managing the programme lifecycle, including:

Programme Monitoring & Updating: Monitor and update the contract programme (using Primavera P6) from a delivery perspective

Change Management: Understand, assess and manage change, including carrying out timely impact assessments
*
Value Management: Support value management initiatives and project controls
*
Cost Breakdown Structure: Understand the cost breakdown structure relevant to National Grid projects
*
Baseline Management: Implement and maintain robust baseline management practices.

Stakeholder Communication: Act as a critical planning interface, confidently communicating programme status and risks to clients and internal delivery teams.

Proactive Planning: Demonstrate strong proactiveness, anticipating issues and driving sequence cycling without requiring constant direction.
Required experience:
We are looking for a Senior Planner who can hit the ground running.

Experience: 10+ years of demonstrable planning experience, ideally on major infrastructure or energy projects

Software Proficiency: Expert/Professional proficiency in Primavera P6 is a MUST
*
Technical Expertise: Strong experience in programme interrogation, cost analysis and baseline management
*
Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, critical for client and team engagement
*
Mindset: Highly proactive, independent and resilient—able to manage and drive complex program requirements autonomously
*
Location Commitment: Willingness to be based on-site in Bridgwater, Somerset, 3-5 days per week.
Desirable/Beneficial: Experience in the Power T&D or relevant sector is advantageous, but the immediate need is for the specific high-level planning skills outlined above
