Job Summary
At Birmingham Hospice, we are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with life‑limiting conditions and supporting their families in one of the most challenging times they will face. We are seeking caring, compassionate, and committed Health Care Assistants (HCAs) to join our In‑Patient Unit team at Erdington Hospice.
Responsibilities
* Deliver hands‑on personal care to patients, including care of deceased patients.
* Report verbally and document care to the team using the system.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and attend statutory training sessions.
* Assist patients with appointments and undertake social activities for patients.
* Maintain infection control measures and a safe working environment.
* Attend flexible 7‑day rota across all areas of the hospice as needed.
* Use financial resources efficiently and support the hospice’s cost‑effective management.
Qualifications & Experience
* Level 2 NVQ in Health or Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
* Previous experience in a care role within healthcare or similar.
* Competent in English and Maths (GCSE level or equivalent).
* Basic IT skills (databases, email, Word).
* Willingness to work flexible hours across multiple sites.
* Experience of oncology or palliative care (desirable).

* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and time‑management skills.
* Ability to be flexible, responsible and work well as part of a team.
* Positive, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
Additional Information
Salary: £23,875 a year.
Contract: Permanent.
Working pattern: Full‑time, flexible.
