An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialised Surgery CBU for a highly motivated senior nurse with a specialist interest in spines. You will be passionate about patient care and will be supported by a team of expert clinicians. You will work within a team of specialist spinal nurses but will report directly to the Spinal Advanced Clinical Practitioner and provide expert clinical patient care to non‑elective spinal patients, including spinal trauma, non‑elective spinal surgery, spinal infection and emergency or urgent degenerative conditions such as cauda equina symptoms.
Main duties of the job
Provide cross‑cover of services to cover absences, particularly for the spinal infection service led by the Spinal ACP. Support the on‑call Spinal Consultant and Spinal Registrar within the Specialised Decisions Unit (SDU) following a pathway of care for patients with suspected or confirmed Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES). Facilitate innovative and evidence‑based nursing practice through professional leadership, supporting the clinical team and acting as a credible and professional role model. Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. Work autonomously within agreed local clinical pathways and manage own workload. Provide specialist advice and support to nurses, multidisciplinary team and provide specialist education to staff, students and/or patients/carers.

Qualifications & experience
* Current NMC registration
* Degree level qualification in health/nursing related studies
* Physical / health assessment
* Non‑medical prescriber
* Evidence of level 7 study
Knowledge & Skills
* Minimum of 3 years post‑registration within trauma & orthopaedics/spines
* Minimum of 2 years experience at band 6
* Formal leadership and management training
* Ability to lead and implement change & new ways of working
